Abstract

For an operating large industrial enterprise, special attention should be paid to the problem of even schedules of electrical loads, which vary during the day, month and year as a whole. As the process of operation of electrical equipment and equipment involved in a complex technological process shows, the evenness of schedules is influenced by a large variety of factors. This paper presents an assessment of the possibility of erecting a hydro-storage power plant to cover consumption peaks during daytime hours, using the example of a metallurgical enterprise. The initial information is the total capacity of its own generation sources, an analysis of power consumption schedules, a map of the area and the choice of location of the plant, the calculation of the required capacity of pumped storage power plant and verification of the technical feasibility of the project. The optimal location of the facility was selected, which will reduce the cost of implementation, as well as reduce the risks of disturbance of the current capacity balance of the power system. As a whole, the spent work on a preliminary assessment of possibility and expediency of application of pumped storage power station for a covering of daily peak loads in a network of Magnitogorsk industrial power unit gave positive results. To make an unambiguous conclusion on this issue requires further detailed feasibility study, taking into account process-related energy losses and construction costs.
